Legislator proposes UH tuition freeze
Hawaii News Now
HONOLULU (AP) – A state lawmaker says he will introduce a proposal to freeze tuition at the University of Hawaii. Democratic Rep.
Democratic state Representative John Mizuno says the 7.5% tuition increase for each of the next three years will hurt students and is unfair. UH-Manoa Provost Linda Johnsrud counters by saying the tuition increases are needed to provide quality programs, classroom improvements, and better technology. Perhaps all the needed funds could be realized if the unversity had better oversight of its current finances. How about the $13.5 million the athletic department ran up in debts or that bogus Stevie Wonder Concert? Leadership begins at the top. Aloha, Russ.
