A newly established solar and geothermal power development area in Southern California could produce enough renewable energy to power 1 million homes.
Russell Roberts‘s insight:
At least California is thinking big when it comes to solar and geothermal energy production. Hawaii needs to put more time and resources into bringing alternative energy to the marketplace. Hawaii is too dependent on imported oil to produce energy. Aloha, Russ.

A great idea. Califonia, wiht help from the Feds and the BLM have added 10,759 acres to a new energy zone. With all the wrangling and in-fighting about land issues, where is Hawaii going to find a proportionalte amount of land to be set aside for such an operation? Maybe Madam Pele could produce a lot more land quickly.
Patience, grasshopper! The Loihi Seamount near Hawaii Island should be breaching the surface of the Pacific Ocean in about 10,000 years. I can see the “Century 21” signs now. Your point is well taken. Hawaii has plenty of land for such a project–unfortunately, people are living on it. Madame Pele is trying though. Kalapana is gone and a little bit more of the Ka’u District is covered every day. In reality, such a solar energy zone is a dream best pursued in deserts with little population. Nevada and New Mexico have the best chances of seeing this idea through. Geothermal, wind energy, and ocean thermal energy are the best bets for Hawaii. All three areas are in some stage of operation here. Of course, we could bottle all the “hot air” that comes from our politicians, but that idea probably won’t go far. Aloha, Russ.
