Ka’u Community Radio was a great concept, but grants and revenue projections were not enough to keep the volunteer-staffed station on the air. Hopefully, KHPR-FM (Hawaii Public Radio) can make a go of it in the Ka’u District. The article has one slight inaccuracy. There is another FM station in the area–KAPA-FM (101.3 MHz) has a translator station in Pahala. That station run by Pacific Media Group is based in Hilo, Kailua-Kona, and Kahalui, Maui. PMG also operates KKBG-FM, Native-FM, KAPA-FM, and ESPN Hawaii (AM-850 and AM-790). PMG also operates a low-power translator in Honokaa (106.1 MHz). Aloha, Russ.
