Amazing Stairway in Oahu, Hawaii http://t.co/EaOydHwXsT
I believe this staircase was part of the Lualualei Coast Guard radio station on the Windward side of Oahu. The Coast Guard once ran a high-power very low frequency (VLF) radio station that had its antenna stretched from one mountain peak to another. At VLF frequencies, a radio wave could measure about a mile or more from crest to crest of the radio wave. VLF has good seawater and ground penatration and was once used for submarine communications. I’ve hiked this staircase a few times….quite a tiring climb….the view was spectacular. Aloha, Russ.
