No more mail at your door? Delivery changes eyed
Hawaii News Now
Door-to-door mail delivery is about as American as apple pie.
Russell Roberts‘s insight:
It’s just a matter of time before this becomes a reality for many of us. The Postal Service is buried under debt and is losing the competitive race for customers from FedEX, DHL, and UPS. Aloha, Russ.

Most new housing areas now have a common, consolidtaed area for 25 or so mailboxes. It limits the number of stops, helps cut down on gas and reduces the time the carrier has to spend at each stop. No more walking up the sidewalks and evading vicious dogs for them now. It probably helps a bit, but with technology creeping into the communications realm, it seems that the majority of the mail is now solicitations and other commercial activity types. Not much in the way of personal communication is done via “snail mail” anymore. Even the monthly bills are getting fewer (not lower, just fewer) as on-line bill pay and other automated processes take their place. The USPS is playing catch up with the efficiencies of FedEx and UPS. I think they have waited too long and will have an increasingly difficult time to stay competitive. They may have a niche but it’s becoming an increasingly smaller one.
As for the postal service, a case of too little, too late. Most of my snail mail is from nonprofits asking for funds, advertising circulars, and phony investment schemes. Russ.
