HPU hands out layoff notices as enrollment drops

Nearly two dozen employees filling administrative positions at Hawai’i Pacific University were laid-off Wednesday.
Expect more actions like this as federal dollars and research grants dry up thanks to sequestration. Unfortunately, colleges and universities are institutions that are sensitive to economic trends and changes. Bills must be paid…if you don’t have the resources, then cutbacks must be made. HPU, unlike the UH system, is a private school that must survive without legislative support. A rough road lies ahead for HPU. Aloha, Russ.
