The Hawaii State Department of Education (DOE) has announced its policy for free and reduced-price meals for children unable to pay the full price of meals served under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast …
While this reduced fee program is successful, there is the bigger issue of families not being able to provide basic necessities for their children, including nutritious food. It’s rather sad that on an island that produces so much agriculutural produce we can’t feed our own people. Priorities, priorities! As food prices increase, more pressure will be placed on groups such as the Hawaii Food Basket to provide basic dietary needs for our poor. Shouldn’t this state and even our nation take care of our own people first? Aloha, Russ.
