No real surprise here. There are several reasons for our low manufacturing rating: most industrial materials have to be imported; the cost of making products is higher than on the U.S. mainland because of high energy and transportation costs; and the space for heavy manufacturing is limited. Besides, I don’t know if industrial development will add more stress to the environment. On the other hand, light industrial development, such as high tech production of computer parts, scientific equipment, and agricultural supplies could work. Aloha, Russ.
