HONOLULU (AP) – Hawaiian Electric Co. is asking the Public Utilities Commission for the authority to negotiate five new solar and wind energy power contracts.

This is only the beginning step in weaning ourselves from our oil addiction.  More must be done to make Hawaii energy self-sufficient.  The shift will be costly.  But, finding ways to avoid the oil chaos in the Middle East is worth a try.  Aloha, Russ.
