Army troops in Hawaii address national sex assault scandal
A nationwide scandal involving sex assault in the military is being called an epidemic. Hawaii troops are part of the national investigation.
Perhaps Hawaii troops can lead the way out of this terrible mess. When I was a member of Uncle Samuel’s Wind Force (Air Force), officers and senior enlisted members were expected to have moral behavior beyond reproach. These sexual scandals are punishable under the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice). Part of the problem is that victims of these sex crimes are reluctant to come forward and identify their tormentors. The new training programs and counseling efforts should help more victims get help. Those who perpetrate such crimes should be held accountable, forced to leave the military, and serve time for crimes committed. Aloha, Russ.
