Hagel offers U.S. to host ASEAN nations in Hawaii next year

This is part of a U.S. move to shift forces from a rapidly deteriorating Middle East to the Pacific Theatre. We have plenty of problems in the Pacific, too. But none like the "no win" situation in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The Pacific Rim is important to Hawaii. We get most of our oil from Sumatra and our trade with Pacific partners, especially the People’s Republic of China, is increasing. There’s not much the U.S. can do to change events in the Middle East–we may have better opportunities in our own back yard–the Pacific Rim nations. Aloha, Russ.
