(AP).  Former Honolulu Mayor Frank F. Fasi–who helped create the city bus system and “greened up” City Hall with parkland–has died.  His son says Fasi was 89 when he died last night in his home.  Fasi was known for his confrontational style while serving as mayor from  1968 and again from 1984 to 1994.

(AP).  Most lawmakers on the Big Island apparently prefer plastic.  A Hawaii County Council committee has voted against a bill to ban local businesses from giving their customers plastic shopping bags.  The full council will vote on the measure in two weeks.

(AP).  Hawaii is still suffering from last year’s recession.  Moody’s Investors Service has changed its outlook on about $5 billion worth of state bonds from stable to negative.  The recession hurt tourism and Hawaii has depleated its budget reserves to stay afloat.
