A former Waikoloa hotel worker who shot and killed his wife’s lover has been found guilty of second-degree murder. According to the “Hawaii Tribune-Herald”, a Big Island jury also found Lito Mateo guilty of using a friearm in the commission of a felony. Mateo shot 38-year old Tito Rafol 18 times with a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol in the parking lot of the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa on March 8th, 2007.
The county Environmental Magemement Commission has ruled that there was nothing improper about the county spending more that $427,025 to rent back a bulldozer it sold six years ao as surplus for $52,083. According to the “Hawaii Tribune-Herald”, the county sold the 1991 Caterpillar D8 in 2003, as part of a trade-in for a new bulldozer. The county has since spent more than eight times what it got renting it back.
