The County of Hawaii will celebrate Hawaii’s 50th Anniversary of statehood on Friday, 14 August, at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium, beginning at 6 pm. The Makaha Sons will perform free on Friday at the Civic. For Kailua-Kona, the event will take place on Sunday, 23 August, with the Makaka Sons peforming free. The Kona newspaper printed the incorrect date for the Kona celebration. For details, call the mayor’s office.
Junior Achievement of Hawaii Island’s popular high school Company Program is ramping up again. Interested returning members, as well as East Hawaii high school students who have not previously participated, are encouraged
to attend the application night on Tuesday, 01 September, at the Waiakea High School Cafeteria at 6:30 pm. To receive an invtittion to attend the application night, students should see their scocial studies teachers or their school’s main office. You can also
