Weather forecasters are keeping a keen eye on Tropical Storm Enrique, 825 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, and Hurricane Felicia, some 1,365 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. (AP). Big Island police say the body of a Maui woman has been found by the side of a road in Kailua-Kona. Acting Lt. Myra Iwamoto says the woman has been identified as 41-year olf Davelin Aweau. Iwamoto says police found no evidence of foul play. The body was found along a street Tuesday morning. An autopsy is planned.

The Hawaii County Council reorganized Tuesday morning in a special meeting that had only one public comment and no debate. The reversion to the previous council leadership structure was mandated by the court because the
June 16th leadership change violated the state’s “sunshine law”. Council members will meet today to discuss a resolution that would authorize leadership changes made on June 16th.

Community activist and advocate for crime victims, Mayapple McCullough, has died in Little Rock, Arkansas. McCullough help found “Citizens for Justice” which played a key role in the
Yvonne Mathison and Dana Ireland murder cases. McCullough was 62.

Matt Hamabata, the executive director of The Kohala Center, has been recognized as one of the outstanding leaders in non-profit groups. Hamabata has received the 2009 Ho’okeke Award from the Hawaii Community Foundation and the Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation. Hamabata has guided The Kohala Center from its founding in January 2001.

(AP). The state is delivering layoff notices to about 1,100 state employees who were previously told their jobs could be cut because of the budget crunch. Governor Lingle said Tuesday that the notices indicated the positions of the affected employees will be eliminated as of November 13th. Some 900 state employees will also be furloughed three days a month.
